We Cook With Daily Dish For You

Wow, you! I've had to write this blog post a long time ago, but life has sung another tune with me.

First, my two-year-old girl was ill for three weeks (almost four weeks) long since late September and that's why I published fewer blog posts here.

During this time, friends had compassion on us. It was great to hear people wanting to help us - we are very grateful for that.

Just about my family living in other provinces - we are in Gauteng - our village is small. You probably know the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child" (it takes a community to raise a child)? That's what I'm referring to when I speak of village.

Princess only came to an end at the end of October and yes, that's it.

Anyway, I wanted to tell you about Daily Dish For You.

It's an online service - you order a box of food of your choice, then send you the recipes and the ingredients. We took the Pork Free (pork-free) option and got four recipes with the ingredients for the week (in September).

WHY DAILY DISH FOR YOU
I asked Daily Dish For You if we could collaborate with them because I wanted to write something about my weakness: to ask for help with my husband. Yes I know, it's a bad habit, but I am so nurtured. You know where you cook and care for the children (even if you are a working woman).

But you, I need help. And many, many times I don't ask for hubby - I accept or believe he must know when to help. He must read my mind - because he can see if I struggle or how?

Anyway, I asked a couple of months ago that I needed him to cook sometimes, because sometimes my workload is huge. He then gave his support.

Then I want to give him a challenge and that's where Daily Dish For You comes in.

Hubby prepared and enjoyed the Daily Dish For You recipes. Really, he enjoyed himself trying something new.

Also, Daily Dish For You saves you the time to go to the store to look for the ingredients!

WHAT HAPPENED

Our box of food arrived on Monday, September 17, 2018 and the next day, I tested the Lam Masala recipe. Hubby was mostly out of the house that week and that's why I couldn't wait for him.

Hubby says he is very impressed with the packaging of the ingredients that arrived in the chilled box (with ice packs). It was courier to our home. All the ingredients were fresh and even spices and sauces were added. He also says he loves the presentation of Daily Dish For You.

We actually had to do the recipes from Monday to Friday - that's what the Daily Dish For You recommended, but we've improvised (done our own thing). On Tuesday, September 18, I made the Lam Masala, on Sunday September 23, the hubby made the Hazelnut Salsa Chicken and only on Saturday September 29, hubby made the Hoisin Burgers. We had the Hoisin Burger on slices of bread because the rolls would be old by the time.

It was the first time our food was cooked according to a recipe and I felt a little intimidated. With the fourth, we also improvised.

HIGHLIGHTS
In the process, I also learned: I made a Lamb Masala (curry) the first night (and it was delicious) and then I realized that I had to try new recipes. I have never tried recipes from a cookbook and it is high time to do so.

We also enjoyed the Daily Dish For You recipes being very healthy and diverse. The portions were also large (we took the Cook-for-4 option). Some times the hubby ate the leftover food in the evening as a snack when he worked at night or we had it the next day. On a Sunday when he made the Hazelnut Salsa and Chicken Dish, we shared it with friends (at a meeting).

The ingredients like the onions you have to cut yourself up because that's how it stays fresh. I also enjoyed being told "cook this for 3 minutes" or whatever - the recipes were very specific. It helps a lot!

I enjoyed the salads, such as the Hazelnut Salsa and the one served with the Hoisin Burger.

LOW
The chicken went down in the fridge (it was my fault) because I took it out of the freezer, knowing that my husband would make the food on Friday but he didn't. Then he made it a day (or two) later and then we got a smell: the chicken is off. As I said, it's my fault.

MORE ABOUT DAILY DISH FOR YOU
It costs R890 per box for two people for a week's food (four recipes) and then it is R1340 per week for four people (four recipes, four days). More than a R1000 a week for food is quite a bag for me, but the portions are huge, it's worth it.

You can choose the following box options for food: Family, Classic, Banting, Vegan and Goodie.

On their website, they say you get R250 discount if you order your first box for two or four people. Or R100 discount on your solo box.

Daily Dish For You also has wine options where you order a box.
